I have good news. Again.

My father has been released from the hospital. His kidney functionality fell precipitously during the week he was out of the hospital so he had to spend another week there. He was given a kidney stent and had his system flushed three times. His vitals have stabilized in the short term.

Stephen posted that heart-wrenching story about his father's dog the other day and it made me tear up because I've been facing the alternate scenario. I got twin kittens in 1999. Dad fell in love with them so much that I had to leave them when I moved back to Knoxville. One died very young. The other, Hobbes, is 13-years-old and Dad is north on his compass. I was terrified that he was never going to get to see his Human again. They have the same bond that Calvin and I did.

Dad has been in the hospital for 11 of the last 21 days so the entire family is stressed beyond all reason. My brother and I are driving up to watch a football game with him tomorrow, which was my hopeful weekend plan that I couldn't mention earlier since Dad wasn't certain to be released today.

If I have been (unusually) grouchy with any of you, I apologize. This is the reason. The grim nature of the situation is weighing on me. And I want to thank all of you for being particularly funny this week. I didn't want to bring anybody down but I definitely needed a boost. You all have provided it. Well, you all and Kim. She's been amazing during all of this.
