I decided what type of vehicle I want, then I search ads (usually Craigslist) to see what comes closest. For instance, I decide "Minivan", then I search until I find something with low mileage and the features I want. If I'm concerned about the brand, I'll research online. An ad won't make me want to buy a car, no matter how slick.
