And then the less shooting thing got seconded. Which really surprised me because I'm not aware of any shooting or gangbanging in my neighborhood.

I think it might be the effect that my neighborhood is very large and, 10 years ago, was not very good. The eastern half of the neighborhood (which I'm in) came back but I guess the western half (or parts thereof) might still be struggling? I can't say I have ever felt any effects from it, but I also never really travel west in my neighborhood more than a few blocks because it feels like it's a different neighborhood.
