we were talking about this in my portrait class on Saturday. Our teacher has painted famous people herself and she hates it.

that is actually not saying much, since she hates a lot of other people's portraits. :)
Anyway, we kind of agreed that the painter's style just does not make most people look good. Large scale photorealism is nobody's friend.
