oh "mike" from at&t, I am choosing to laugh at you rather than have a more negative emotion.

backstory: I went to pay my home phone bill (yes, I still have one) and saw I had been charged 25 cents a minute (!) for 2 calls to my mom's house in December. I hadn't used my home line for long distance calls for years, but there were reasons for me to then. I have a cheapie Sprint long distance plan (I really should get rid of) that includes "local long distance"/in-state calls; and that should have been in play, but it wasn't.

here's the heart of AT&T's response - I think it's some kind of word game or mad libs. of note, my mom lives ~30 miles from my place:

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. I have reviewed your account details it shows that you are enrolled for Residence Flat Rate Serv provides the End User a network access line and unlimited local calling (in their local calling area) at a flat rate.. However, you have been charged for Zone 3 (Zone Usage Measurement (ZUM) is for calls to central offices from 13 miles to 16 miles and there are an additional fee per minute. Beyond that, within your LATA, is called Local Toll.

(they are going to credit me for $5, which covers most, if not all, of the charges; so woo.)
