I had the same experience. It's kind of a spooky show, but it's also a cool little family drama, too.

And the episodes are consistently pitch-perfect on both themes. If it was too far on the spooky side, it would end up too schmaltzy and Ghost-Whisperer-like (which I detest). And I don't really like "family dramas" too much, but this has just enough of a twist on both sides to make it really interesting and kind of heart-warming.
