Though I will say that the experience made me more empathetic and conscious of a server's efforts, but also a little less forgiving of bad service.

I reward good and even competent service more than I otherwise would have, but am less inclined to tip for clear inattention and/or incompetence.

i.e., I know how hard it can be to do a great job, but I also know how easy it can be to exhibit basic competence. Taking circumstances into account, of course.
