I don't necessarily disagree with him either, but I think he misunderstands the point of the article, which was to make cat owners aware of the amount

of the amount of preying they do. Sure, it's natural, that's why they do it. But a lot of cat owners also like birds and other furry creatures, and may not be aware of the amount of predation.

I've always been particularly befuddled by people who put out bird feeders, and let their cats out.
