On the civility/calmness thing on Bwhatever, it's worth mentioning that this legislation was championed by the PM and only seriously opposed by MPs in

his own party. So anyone against the law couldn't afford to get too upset.
When Australia's parliament recently voted against same sex marriage (which was opposed by the PM, as well as the conservative opposition), the debate was a lot more raucous. (Of course, this is Australia, and to be expected)
