I'm concluding that hsx really doesn't care about the core players, the ones with mega ports because its the small newbie players that tell them more

about the market conditions.
power players play the game, casual players buy stuff that interestes them, have to make more weighty decisions on openers because its a big chunk, if not their entire portfolio, whereas big ports can buy and hold and go against their own tastes
they want to poll ignorant players, not serious ones.
they took away market lab and daily change because it only sqews the game and detracts from the info they are trying to collect
the horrid portfolio page seems to deliberately hinder large port management

You could argue that the success of TT in maintaining a loyal base (even among those who weren't playing much anymore) was the basis for them deciding

That may be true. But if it was their intention to increase site socialization aspects...

Why is there a need for social networking? That's not the purpose of the game. -- nm

The purpose of the game is to make money for the owners of the site. They are apparently trying to enhance that.

Who was it that said the other day that HSX has changed their business model? The game is no longer the purpose.

I'm not sure we can assume that megaport holders are the core, and not a minority -- nm

Also, the demographic was skewing older by far, and the studios probably don't give a fuck about old folks :) -- nm

That's fine. If they don't care about the vets...that's their business. But I can't see any noob coming upon V3 right now and saying that this looks

Or, appealing to n00bs is the only way to actually grow the game, so they appropriately shifted their focus a bit. -- nm
