it's a portable Internet/multi media device. The only difference between the smart phones and the glasses is the proximity to one's body.

Then again, maybe the Internet itself is the true origin of the new species. The devices we're talking about are merely means to connect to the Internet. I wonder what the Net will be in 25/50/100/500 years.
