So yesterday my dashboard said "engine oil / change soon". Made an appointment for a change for Monday.

I'm curious what ST thinks the mechanism is for detecting this - does it actually examine the oil or oil levels, or does it just use a time-based index since "the last change"?

I'm guessing the latter, which means it's more than safe to drive as much as I normally would, but of course I'm paranoid that I might be wrong.

It's not time based. My car does it and I abide by it's % oil life vs. the mileage or time frame. My car is about to hit 130k miles and I'd say it's - oblique Feb 22, 10:33
