Why do you think it will be a lousy main event? Is it because of women fighters, or do you think Rousey is too dominant?
There is some depth, but this is going beyond a new weight class. This is a new gender, with multiple weight classes. I don't know who they have signed, but they have Tate fighting undefeated Cat Zingano on the TUF finale. The winner of that fight likely gets a shot at the belt. Unless Cyborg (who I think is also signed) drops down. If the PPV does well, more will be signed. If not, it will probably depend on the next PPV. They could end up scrapping the division, an outcome I am sure a lot of people are rooting for.
They are starting it this way because it came about from Zuffa ending Strikeforce. Rousey was the champion, UFC had no champion, she enters as the champ. I don't know what happened with other Strikeforce title holders. And they couldn't do a tournament. I don't think they could find 8 women who would be willing to potentially fight Rousey. Almost certainly not 8 that could hold their own. A 4-woman tournament would be a stretch.
And after the main event you still have Machida/Henderson, Faber against someone who has won 2 of his last 3 with submission of the night, and Court McGee and Josh Neer fighting for their jobs.
Does the boycott extend to the prelims?
