They have to build the division and not build a star. Most fans couldn't name more than 3 female fighters.

That's why doing something like TUF would get the women a chance to get their personality across and build a fan base. If they have one fighter who just wins every fight with an armbar it gets really boring. And some of their long time champions are not large ppv draws. It would be like Silva where everyone is a huge underdog, and his fights don't sell well unless the opponent is hyping it and trash talking up a storm like Sonnen.
But hey what do I know, I'm not running the UFC. But I can tell you that the fighter tenants I've talked to are pissed about it too.
