Oh, I disagree. That happens quite a bit. They want to bring in someone that the audience will take to without having to waste any time.

It seems like there have been tons of shows with a cameo by a main's parent that is a name.
Technically, he blew the head off one of his biggest antagonists, so maybe he can ease up? That would be cool.
