The Chiefs have talent. They underachieved tremendously the last two years.

This is similar to what was paid for Kolb, who was nowhere near as accomplished as Smith at the time. Here are the stats to consider:
Smith is 19-5-1 over the past two regular seasons.
He was 426 out of 663 (64.3%) for 4,881 yards, which is 7.36 yards an attempt.
He threw 30 TDs against 10 INTs.
Those stats reflect an upper tier NFL QB. The Alex Smith has become such a sideshow that people forget how well he has played, and he lost his job last year due to a concussion, not poor play.
