WWSTD? You applied for a new position at your current company about 3 months ago.

The application and interview process takes forever, so you apply, wait a month for a first interview, wait another month for a second interview, that involves making a presentation and other tests, etc. During the interview portion of that second interview, which takes place on a Thursday, the hiring manager indicates that they are hoping to make a decision Friday or Monday. Every indication in the interview is that you're doing great; they're using language like "You'll see when you get up here...", etc. You send a thank you email to them after the interview, that you're looking forward to hearing their decision soon.
Friday and Monday come and go. The entire rest of that week comes and goes. No good news, no bad news. No real announcement of a hire, though you wouldn't necessarily see it. It's now almost 2 weeks after that interview. At this point obviously your enthusiasm is waning, but it would be good to know for sure. How do you proceed? Can you e-mail them back to ask for an update? Do you just give up? What would you do?

I would definitely follow up. That's how I got my current job...

If it were me, I'd chalk it up to bureaucracy and overall slowness.
