Work advice needed: I was hired with 3 months training/probation period. I get a base salary, and once I start my own projects, will be base+commissio

n.

In the last week, I've really helped confirm about 3 big sales. I did most of the grunt work, communicating with the groups, and relating those to my boss. I've been also corresponding with providers, and doing all the paperwork behind the scenes. I've just been keeping my boss updated, and receiving some of his direction, especially since he's been traveling with his family for the last 2 weeks and as such has not been really around.

These have been 3 very high value clients, where the commission would be substantial.

But boss is saying that I'm still in training period, and since I've only been "assisting" him, I will not be receiving the commissions yet. "I want you to gather more experience and this is why I'm having you work with me on these requests," he says.

I feel like this is a copout, because though I am technically still in the training period, I honestly feel I did most of the work on these clients... so much so that, to be honest, I wouldn't have been working so hard and stressing over securing their sales if I had known they weren't my projects. But because it seemed like I was doing all the work (all communications, working with providers, leading documents), I really believed I was working for my own commissions.

Is this just the nature of the beast, or do you think it is within my bounds to argue for at least a portion of the commissions during this interim period?

TIA
