The most convincing rebuttal is simply to imagine *why* we "allow" retirees to marry.

Aren't we happy for them? Don't we value love in and of itself? Don't we say, "Who are we to tell them they can't"?
Or imagine a presumably fertile 35-year-old woman with no children, wanting to marry a man who's had a vascectomy. Isn't every reasonable person's initial impulse simply to say, "Well, what business is it of mine"?
It's obvious we don't really think marriage is about procreation. People just want to pretend we do.
