When Benjamin Smith went on a shooting spree in Illinois, the NRA complained that he was able to because Illinois hadn't properly enforced the laws.

When actually they had worked just fine. He hadn't been able to buy a gun legally from a gun shop. He bought guns from a third party, where he didn't have to have a check done.
