We used to have a Negro Baseball League, and a White League. Now it's Major League Baseball. We now have the first African-American President.

The Oscars started in 1928. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed 56 years later.

Speaking personally, I'll start bitching about the Image awards after they've been around for more than 56 years.
Responses:
You aren't getting my point. Are they needed still? Baseball was pre 1900s, Did we need Negro Leagues to continue? -- nm

I do get your point. I'm just saying that if it took 56 years to start undoing racism in Hollywood ...

Er, that didn't make sense. Let me try again.

I guess the fact it is looking for wrong for me is a sign progress is being made. I would have accepted it as no big deal 20 years ago.

Negro Leagues were needed b/c black players weren't allowed in MLB.

Fair enough. We all know there would never be a White Image Awards.

There shouldn't be, but since we put it there as the ones who created the problem, not really our place to start complaining about it. -- nm

I am not even complaining about it. I am just wishing we could get past the division between the many groups.

eventually they will become less meaningful for people, as they recognize more and more the increasing opportunities availabel to them.

Well I believe in the all men are created equal. So, because I am white it's not my place to have an opinion and to express it?

no one said you couldn't express your opinion.

It's a big big step, but one that surprised a lot of people, which implies to me its going to take some time for all the progress to sink in. -- nm

Big Step absolutely. I didn't vote for the man because of his color. However, I was very happy with the side effect benefit it would also have. -- nm

That subtraction is iffy, but the point about 1964 being not long ago at all is solid. :)

MLK believed all men are created equal. Why wouldn't Robert Downy Jr. be eligible for an Image Award? He is a man is he not? -- nm

I think it is premature to say that we have all as a society caught up to racism to the point that we can start pointing the finger at blacks...

Yeah, even that statement though understandable is divisive. When you say we, I take it because I have white skin I was part of the problem.

Get what I am seeing here. I don't have a problem with the Image Awards as an award show. I think it does more harm to the people getting the award.
