I have done this a number of times. Almost always it's some vanilla based scent.

I just say "Excuse me. I'd love to get my wife that perfume. Would you tell me what it is?"
sometimes though, it smells very different in the bottle or on mrs. zork
the best actually, for my taste, are the plain vanilla oil at the body shop or those little vials of Oetker vanilla extract from the grocery store
