I like that it takes it's time...for an action movie. It's probably 20 mins into it before stuff starts going down...save for the opening scene which is well done.
They took their time and developed some characters and ideas for later...again, for an Action Movie.
I won't really quibble about how they take the WH down. I suspect the very first thing is bonk but won't know until I see it but I suspect two F-22s aren't going to get that close to an unidentified AC-130 Gunship. Also, the AC-130 has the most magical anti-missile chaff in the world. Also, the 3rd F-22 waited until he could see the gunship before firing? They can pop off missiles from great distances.
military details aside...it was fun albeit very brutal. I don't think I've seen that many headshots since AWD episode.
It's definitely Die Hard in the White House meets AF1 especially with the cheesy one-liners. What they did really well however was ratchet up the tension through the movie so that by the end the US is under nuclear threat from within.
Some of the character motivations got short shrift with less than 30secs explanation.
The SecDef was great.
Morgan Freeman was good and his character was a bit more nuanced than his usual President shtick.
It's a really well done Action Movie. It's Summer Blockbuster Quality so I'm puzzled by the release date.
