In response to "It's like they looked at the Wii success in 2006-8 and thought...what can we do to not replicate that?" by Will Hunting

I'm not as tweaked about the always on aspect in isolation as some.

I strongly suspect they have made the determination that five years from now, always on will be a way of life. They are willing to bite the bullet in the short term since they have to think about 7-10 years of console life.

The problem is that at this price point, gamers have to be lured into a purchase. Thus far, there is nothing about either system that accomplishes this goal for me. All they offer is "Better graphics".

"Better graphics" is what the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn were selling. I avoided both because I only care about the games themselves.

With so much competition in the videogame marketplace now, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft have to differentiate themselves. Nintendo has already failed while Sony and Microsoft seem to be lining up to repeat the mistake.
