The hospital wasn't on either side. They asked them to settle it and when it got out of hand they arrested somebody. That's going to happen no matter what.

Did the family not like the partner because he was gay? Probably, but that had nothing to do with the hospital's actions. If they were a straight couple and an altercation occured the same damn thing would have happened.
