1. You have to remember that you aren't responsible for your mother's emotions. 2. If she's very sad/depressed/etc maybe she should go get some

counselling and maybe start on anti-depressants. 3. It's normal for older people to go through a period of depression when they retire. 4. She's got to find something (with or without your help) to fill the empty hole in her life. Has she found a church yet? Maybe she could volunteer at the senior citizens center and deliver Meals on Wheels or something. Schools love volunteer workers, maybe she could do one on one tutoring a couple a days a week.
Also, is your parents marriaage ok? Do they really talk to one another? Maybe they need to go on a nice trip, like through the California wine country or something?
