like it'll likely be magnetic and quite dense, but that's not strictly always the case. you usually see a fusion crust (look it up, basically exactly what it sounds like, melted crust around the rock).
There are a couple distinctive textures that don't happen with anything else as well, regmaglypts (texture caused by melting, sort of looks like thumbprints in clay), and widmanstatten pattern (linked). If you see either of those, it's definitely a meteorite. if they're not there, it could still be.
I have a couple, one stony, one nickel-iron. no widmanstatten pattern though. I want one with that.
