Why complicate matters?

...Wasn't the presence of Nimoy Spock in the original AND the destruction of Vulcan essentially setting up the entire "Reboot Universe" as its own completely separate timeline?
And if so,.... Wouldn't the logical explanation be that it wouldn't be the "Mirror Universe" per se, but simply another timeline? Possibly one of many?
