just got this email from my oldest friend (as in, we've been friends for 30 years.) bit of back story - she met this guy - mr. wonderful - back in november-ish. it was magical, wonderful, perfect. she met his family at christmas - happy happy. then, suddenly, about a month ago, it got much less great. she got very bad vibes suddenly and ended it. So, no advice needed - but, chime in with thoughts....
today's email:
I really don't go looking for drama...
...I'm really trying hard to get it out of my life.
But when you break up with a guy because you start seeing red flags all over the place (classic warning signs of a potential abuser...oh BOY!) and then he phones you or messages you every day, drops by your place to return something and then spends 20 minutes telling you why you're going to be sorry you left him, and you "accidentally" bump into him on the street near your place (at 10:30 at night?), and he sends you FOUR dozen roses at work, without a card (after telling you he 'doesn't do' Valentine's Day)...
Let's just say I'm actually getting scared of this one.
I know I'm not being completely clear with him right now - I can't tell him to leave me alone completely because of his relationship with the festival, but I may actually have to commit career suicide and bluntly tell this one to NEVER speak to me again.
At which point, if he is as unbalanced as he seems to be, and based on things he started to tell me about himself (just one of the many red flags that cropped up around week 11) he will try to ruin my credibility at work. And I gave him just enough information about my co-workers to hang me. So, my own fault there, I guess.
Anyway, lesson learned. My gut told me not to get involved on the first date, but he was just so darned wonderful, I didn't listen to it.
Long story short, if you've got a really good one (and it seems that you do), make sure he knows it. We need to do all we can to foster the sane!
Hope to see you in the near future,
