IF you want someone good, worth the effort, then the $3k would be what an experienced quality photog would get, for the 30 some hours involved, plus

albums etc. pro quality albums cost several hundred each (sounds hi but look at what a purse costs and its down right reasonable)
there is only one measure of what counts, what makes the photog worth it....
do their images knock your socks off, do you look at them and think, wow I could never see myself or anyone I know doing something like this.
and you have to look beyond the photoshop processing,
pro photogs charge like carpenters, or other hi skill jobs, many of which we could do ourselves or know someone but we hire a pro to do them because we want our kitchen to look right, for the mitered corners to come together just right, and everything level, and we want it done in a couple days or a week and drawn out for a year. (personal exp, we ripped out everything I did and had someone come in to do it right)
