Romm 237 - NC

I can't give it a grade but if forced it would be low. There's an interesting story between the analysis of The Shining and the people but it completely misses a chance to delve into who these freaks are. That may have not been their intention but as a creative person I might have picked up on the possibility of a great story.

Some of the theories were interesting but there's not a whole lot there. It's continuity errors and a whole lot of "Kubrick was a detail genius, trust us...he intended to put that there." The rest of it is likely unintentional themes informed by Kubrick's reading etc but I don't think he intentionally lined the cans in the freezer with imagery to suggest the genocide of the American Indians.

Also "Saving Private Ryan" - A+...I noticed a few things I'd never noticed before. One - the introduction of Barry Pepper's character is immediately preceded by 2 other small scenes centered around religion. The first is the priest on the beach hearing last confession, the next is the man weeping uncontrollably while holding a rosaries and then we see Barry Pepper's character reciting passages while picking off Germans. I took this all to show Religion at it's best, Religion at it's most needed and Religion at it's worst.

I also watched a few episodes of MSNBC's "Locked Up" and have a newfound appreciation for the prison system. Some of the inmates are scary as eff. There are some Nightmare People in there that should never see the light of day again.
