Can I ask, how could you tell you had problems with your thyroid? Or could you not?

Mine has been enlarged for decades, but no real issues? My numbers were started to rise a few months back, and my endo said if they were still rising at the time of my next appt (which is next week), I'd be put on meds. I've noticed an unexplained weight gain in those 3 months. I'm wondering if its related.
