I think everything is really generational. charlie and I have dells and they're awful; camille's (a year newer) is fine.

kim has an HP (two years old) whose motherboard has now died twice.
I feel like basing anything on past models is unfair.
all of these things said, I have never owned a bad vaio. I don't know what's out there now, but were I buying a windows machine for me, they would be my first stop.
