When I bought a laptop, there were several decisions I had to make. The processor power isn't as important as it once was since an i5 now matches an i7 from a couple of years ago.
Onboard graphics processing, on the other hand, can really bottleneck a system. You want something that includes a graphics chip, preferably one with 2 GB of memory if possible. I had a difficult time finding a system that had a large storage drive, an SSD and a 2 GB GPU for $750.
In my experience, Sony, Toshiba, HP and Dell were the best brands I tested. Asus also seemed good but my last laptop from them had a tendency to lock up.
If I see any deals over the next few days, I will post the information here.
