my adapter gripe: why couldn't they make USB work more easily, when everyone else could.

why do I have to have yet another adapter for apple products? and why are they so expensive? (I know that one, but it's annoying: because it's what people will pay for them; and they don't have much non-OEM competition for many items, because they get away with it.)
