it actually depends. that same company makes rice cookers that use pressure to raise temperatures....

like this one linked below. there are gas cookers for rice that use pressure too. i think most of 'em don't (my sanyo doesn't), but some do.
rice cookers are the best, though. practically me fave piece of cooking equipment.
