honestly, she could be totally wrong as well. it depends on a lot of things really.

but yes, there is a so called "marriage" penalty, in that some married couples, if they both filed as single, would have a lower combined tax burden.

but that isnt as simple as it sounds really, it depends on a lot of factors, and also depends on how the two singles would split the deductibles.

so without knowing all the facts, i cant say if she was right or wrong.

the simple answer would be to not get married, if you are worried about something like that.
