I always heard that black folks didn't play hockey because they didn't want to dominate yet another sport! :) -- nm

I just think it's a bit simplistic to say "minorities, therefore no money". It's not really true in Canada. -- nm

to compare it to basketball, where one guy has to buy a 20 dollar ball, and you can play for months with it.

sure. but football isn't really cheap to play, either, and that hasn't stopped minority participation...nm

It's cheap to play with friends and get going. A football costs $20 and you can play two hand touch. Hockey sticks aren't cheap and they break.

I don't think it's just cost . The lack of role models is an issue. The lack of outreach is an issue. Where is the NHL when it comes to setting things

Also, they build courts all over the place. You don't need more than one friend to play basketball. You can't play hockey with two guys.
