I take issue with the 'policy implications' paragraph.

If you're a shooter, "the political system, in hock to the N.R.A., will classify you as a nut whose deadly actions have few or no policy implications... nobody will ask why the F.B.I. or the C.I.A. didn�t realize you were such a menace to society and lock you up preëmptively."
Okay, maybe "the political system" thinks/operates this way, but there are plenty on the pro-gun side arguing that more effort needs to be made in identifying the crazy people before they start shooting. Probably not with the FBI and certainly not the CIA, but no, the idea that the NRA or gun rights advocates dismiss crazy shooters as "something we�ve grown used to" is not correct.
