From an interview I saw, it did seem like someone who set up a subreddit put some caveats in its opening post, urging people to avoid profiling

"let's see if we can provide some help" isn't necessarily a bad thing, you just have to remember that you're an untrained investigator looking at a piece of the puzzle, not the whole thing. Not an easy plan to stick to when you have too many cooks in the kitchen.
