I have a thin neoprene brace on it to help support it a bit now.

as far as playing again, this was my last shot. The thought of possibly having to go through another surgery, this time on the leg that was fine, is enough to make me rethink my stance on it.
I miss playing every day, but I am sure I would miss walking without a cane too.
