I don't see it as particular to my field. I cannot conceive of any case in any field where it would be okay to see your letters. -- nm

Eh, when I worked in college recruiting, we had a site where people routinely submitted their letters of rec themselves.

as I said before, I've seen it both ways for recs/refs. calls/emails are more common than letters for corporate jobs, in my experience.

in my experience (and mrs. zork's), people write a letter for you when you leave and give it to you to use as you want -- nm
