I suppose I can conceive of colleges/universities where they might have preferred letters of rec be submitted in other ways, but I can't think of any. It was just a normal thing for candidates to submit themselves, along with resume, transcript, etc. *shrug*

as I said before, I've seen it both ways for recs/refs. calls/emails are more common than letters for corporate jobs, in my experience. - b! May 1, 21:46
