I think it's an awkward position to be in.

If you keep it - suddenly everyone on your alliance thinks you're going to screw them over and you're an instant target.

Erik's strategy seems to be "go under the radar and try to be the swing vote", and holding onto the idol in front of everyone is the opposite of that
