I am going to tackle this, because this sounds crazy to me.

My father was a gun collector, and I alone, from a family of five children, was not involved in some kind of serious, traumatic shooting accident. Lucky me, eh?
Lucky? What about it's more rare for a kid to injure himself with a gun that people expect. It's like saying, "my parents owned a bath tub and it's lucky nobody ever drowned in it". If you are a responsible gun owner, there is nothing lucky about it. Just the same way you have a gas stove, and your kids don't get blown up by it.
Sigh, we are so indoctrinated that guns are bad it drives me nuts. I have handled guns ever since I was in the Military. I haven't shot anyone or myself either. Is that luck?

People, generally speaking, don't use bathtubs to kill other people.

In fairness though, that's hardly an appropriate analogy given that guns can neither bathe you, nor cook your food.
