I'd love to see statistics on home invasion, versus, say, the likelihood of your plane falling from the sky.

Add up all the nights spent by all the people of the US in their homes at night since say 1950, then find out the percentage of those that suffered from a home invasion where the perp was violent. Then pit that against all those who died in plane crashes. Just as a matter of interest. Because I have a sneaking suspicion that with those statistics in hand the case for gun ownership becomes non existent. And further, when pitted against falling planes, the same argument that advocates gun ownership would logically extend to recommending that everyone who flies on a plane would be crazy to board with a parachute on their back.
