In speaking to the latter...I think that was the biggest failing of the movie.

they spend this movie telling us the why he conquered; they show him being hailed as a conquering hero; basically his life's validation...
within the context of the tragedy that followed....and they didn't bring up the elephant in the room. I thought that was insulting and dropping the ball as a parting gift.
How could it be so special to him as we've just seen for the duration, yet their absence not spoken to?
