... blank cells appear at the top and cells with data appear at the bottom? I assume there is some option flag somewhere, but i'm missing it and can't find the right answer via google.
and gawd do I ever hate excell 2007.

You'd have to sort by another column first - Excel won't sort blank cells on their own.
