so rugi, derrick, craig and I had an email thread about this. and rugi and derrick totally support tossing people out.
so rugi sent out an email this morning to 57 members of the class with the disclosures copied (including the student who was expelled last year for cheating). the subject line was
"is there any honor in the SMEAL HONOR CODE? - different rules for different people?"
and amishi, who we know is the GMAT cheater, replied:
Guys, I understand the concern, but have we forgotten that this is our community that we are questioning? The cases below may sound similar but may be very different in terms of 1) intent to cheat 2) time when the incident happened 3) admission or guilt 4) partaking responsibility and follow ups
Even the court of law distinguishes between intent to commit and crime and crime committed without intent. Guys, we can have a discussion about this as we are away from the situation, but for once just think of the people having gone through this process, having faced the AI committee and having paid the price of the violations.
We need to trust the system and the AI committee at Smeal is a very thorough and sound system. I have full confidence in our code and system and I do not think its right on our part to question the same. The AI process is a long and detailed process and there are many intricacies that we cannot judge just by one email statement.
and then?
and then I replied. would you like to see my response?
