Do you think comments are useful on low-readership websites, or is enabling them just a waste of time?

Now what about for big/busy sites?

One thing I miss when I moved my website to tumblr was a "YellBox" type thing. There is sadly so very little back-and-forth communication between me

Uh. Huh? Tumblr has two things like this. Question submissions and notes on reblogs. -- nm

Both really kind of suck. It becomes almost impossible to follow notes on reblogs when they get a lot of them. And Question submissions are more used

Yeah, it does have the "ask me a question" thingie.

They're not useful for SEO, if that's what you're asking.

For the blog launch I'm working on, it would use Disqus, which doesn't even register for SEO I think -- nm

The Gawker sites use Disqus, I think. Worst comment section ever, as far as I'm concerned.

AICN is a site I've avoided for years. I have zero clue what the comments section looks like there.

I think you'd just be either deleting or marking as spam most comments you get. -- nm

On big sites, yes. Maybe not for small scale single-audience sites? -- nm

yeah, thank god(s) you don't have a comments section on ST, can't imagine the stuff we'd post -- nm

They only work well where they are strongly moderated. If you don't have the time to moderate either accept that they'll be a vile cesspool of hate

I get *nothing* but spam in comments on my site.
